Nutella Braided Bread Wreath

  • 4 cups flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm
  • 2 tablespoons bread yeast
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Nutella, small jar

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a hook attachment, combine the yeast, sugar and warm milk. Let stand for about 2 minutes to activate the yeast. You should see bubbles form on the surface. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour and salt to combine. Add the oil and egg yolks to the yeast and begin to stir on low. Slowly add the flour, a half cup at a time until well combined. Knead in a standing mixer until smooth and elastic. The dough should no longer stick to the sides of the bowl. Form into a ball and place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap or a moist towel and allow it to rise in a warm place until nearly doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 350°. Roll out the dough to form a rectangle about 16″ x 20″ in size. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then cover in a thin layer of Nutella, leaving about a 1/2″ around the edges.

Roll up the bread along the longer edge, and then slice gently down the center of the roll with a very sharp knife, leaving a 1/2″ uncut at the top. Begin to braid the two sides together, making sure to roll the layered side up so that the Nutella layers are visible, giving the bread that gorgeous look. Once twisted, pinch the two ends together to form a round wreath.

Place the wreath on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is lightly golden brown.
